An extract from Europe Is Lost by Kate Tempest:
The people are dead in their lifetimes
Dazed in the shine of the streets
But look how the traffic’s still moving
System’s too slick to stop working
Business is good, and there’s bands every night in the pubs
And there’s two for one drinks in the clubs
And we scrubbed up well
Washed off the work and the stress
And now all we want’s some excess
Better yet; a night to remember that we’ll soon forget
People are dead in their lifetimes: Chasing the material comforts we are told we need for a good life. Me too. Time for me to step out of being dead in my lifetime. Time to think about what that means. Time to turn away from passivism. Time to do stuff that I believe in.
System’s too slick to stop working: The system doesn’t work for us. The system works for capital. Is it too slick to stop working? Can it be changed without a violent revolution? What does it need to be replaced with?
Let’s go.
